  Do JWs actually believe the things they're taught?

  the governing body has much control over the lives, thoughts, actions, etc..of many.

  i was thinking of the "new light" policy and this gives the gb virtually unlimited power to do what they want.. take this for instance: we know how doctrines such as no trinity, no hellfire, and no immortal soul, are all considered the core beliefs that will never change.

  lets just that today the gb just happens to reverse them all...what would happen?

  I agree that people believe for different reasons. Some are emotional and some out of pride. My mom is an emotional believer and feels there has to be a true religion and the dubs are it because "they teach right out of the Bible" . My sister is hardly even practicing but keeps going to the Hall on Sundays. She believes because of pride, not wanting to admit that she's been wrong all these years. Anyway, whatever purpose it serves for them, they will believe or at least have to pretend that they believe.

  todays watchtower/marriage counselors

  today at the watchtower study,they said that marriage counselors encourage folks who are having issues to divorce..is that the stupidist thing that youve ever heard?

  like,how many of them have gone to marriage counseling lately?.also the thing about the man being the head,the decision maker,that aint'jus' aint'a settin' right w/me...so,i assume if i get reinstated,i cant be an elder?like,because i dont have a penis?..um,hello,its 2007!!

  Again, it's the don't trust anything outside the "Organization" crap. If the couple is unhappy, so what! If they are, they obviously aren't following "Brooklyn's Bible Principles" for husbands and wives. Eventually, if the husband or wife commits "wrongdoing" , they are disfellowshipped.

  Don't those shepards take good care of the flock?

  What happened to you, to not to "feel the love" from the "friends"?

  thinking back at the start of me questioning that perhaps the "friends" were not really true friends at all, were some experiences i will relate below: please share those that you have experienced.. after i had carpel tunnel surgery and was in a cast.....not one of the "friends" asked me about it?

  at first i thought they wanted to be "polite" and not draw attention to the fact of the cast...but thinking more about it afterwards...it was just plain unloving and uncaring.

  I've experienced and seen so many examples of injustices, I can't even remember them all. Plus, you are supposed to put up with your brothers and sisters so you don't stumble them!

  Brooklyn has been using this line for decades. I like #1, the dubs always have competition from the Mormons in preaching, so no, they are not unique. Just this quick fact alone refutes their statement.

  i was never a witness, i joined this site after my wife started studying with them, and i got upset over some of the things that resulted from that.

  however, i grew up in a similar high-control group called the worldwide church of god.

  much like the witnesses, in the mid 70s ( i forget the exact year, i was only in elementary school in those days, but it may have been 75, just like jws), there was a big push toward the end being at hand, the great tribulation is coming, etc etc.

  i made the biggest mistake in my life.

  i got baptized at the wichita kansas district convention.

  i had not thought about in quite a while, and then yesterday i had a flash back.

  I got finish listening to some Kingdom Songs for the 1st time i my life...

  "Hey - remember when they took the piano out of KHs? the orchestra out of the assemblies? Can't have any lack of uniformity here. " Yes, I do remember this. I missed the piano at the Hall and I remember some sisters who played for the congregations were upset when we got the canned music. I couldn't blame them. What else were they going to use their musical talents for? Man, some of those sisters could put some life into those boring songs with a faster tempo. I remember the orchestra at the assemblies too. It was fun to watch them and escape the boredom. I don't remember the logic Brooklyn used for all of this. It was probably something about too much attention being brought to individuals in the congregation. You couldn't have one clone different than another clone.

  So I attended the District Convention today.

  this is my first dc with the blinders removed.

  it seemed strange for some reason now, maybe my view of the org now is why.

  today was super boring this time for me since i wasn't ignorant of the crap anymore, but i was suprised, that the "faithful and discreet slave" was hardly mentioned throughout the day.
